My goal as a singer song writer is to connect children to nature through seasonal, acoustic music. The songs on this first album, I love My Dandelions, are spring songs. They are filled with that effervescent feeling of joy felt by anyone who has “made it through” a long, cold Maine winter. This album is a beautiful combination of original music and creative arrangements of seasonal poems. It’s music for the whole family!

Currently I work as a Physical Education teacher and Forest Friday educator at the Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb Maine. At CTL I am able to share my passion for connecting children with nature through both science and physical education.

Inspiration for this collection of songs came from a connection to midcoast Maine and its beautiful ecosystems. While teaching music at the Juniper Hill School in Alna, Maine, I led a weekly sing-a-long to children ages 3-9 and their families. I used music, dancing and singing games to help build community. As a Certified Waldorf teacher, Licensed USCG Captain, and through my work as an environmental educator at The Chewonki Foundation, I gained an enduring appreciation for the natural world.

Many people have supported me through the process of recording a CD. It was really fun to work with my cousin, Maria Scalzi Wherley, on a couple of songs for the album. Her songwriting ability is amazing. It was also an honor to work with singer songwriter Jud Caswell on this project. Jud has won numerous awards for his songwriting, and his amazing talents were truly a gift on this album.
